Map Win-Key To Main Menu
From Knowledge76
Ever miss being able to open your main menu with the windows or ubuntu key? This is an especially useful feature for laptops, so you don't have to use the track-pad to navigate your menus. Really easy, too.
- In the main menu, select System>Preferences>Keyboard.
- In the "Keyboard Preferences" window,
- (in karmic) open the "Layouts" tab, then hit the "Layout Options" button.
- (pre-karmic) open the "Layout Options" tab.
- Click "Alt/Win Key Behavior." Select the "Add the standard behavior to Menu key" radio button.
- Close Layout Options and Keyboard Preferences.
- In the main menu, select System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts (not System>Preferences>Keyboard as before)
- Under Desktop, you should have "Show the panel menu" set to Alt+F1. Select that item. Now hit the windows or ubuntu key and close that window.
- Now test it out: press the windows or ubuntu key to open the Applications menu and Esc to close it.
